Maureen Santiago

Maureen mesmerizes musical audiences with her rich Malaysian heritage combined with smooth, sultry vocals. Passionate about music, she discovered her love for singing at age nine and has done it ever since. Although a versatile vocalist capable of performing any genre’, she specializes in Smooth Jazz, R&B/Soul and Adult Contemporary styles. Heavily influenced by the great female vocalists like Etta James, Anita Baker and Whitney Houston, Maureen’s performances are defined by her signature power, range and control while delivering the crystal-clear vocals that set her apart.

After winning or being a top finalist in several talent competitions, Maureen got her big break when she was a finalist in the Bintang RTM national talent competition and was offered a Resident Artist position at the national TV and Radio network, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM). She spent the next 2 years as resident artist, appearing on frequent TV and Radio music programs, highlighted by a tour with the RTM Orchestra across Malaysia with additional stops in Singapore and Brunei.

Maureen’s career blossomed during this period. After two years, RTM promoted her to a TV presenter position, where she spent the next eight years. In addition to her prior responsibilities, she then also announced upcoming shows, hosted musical-themed programs and recorded promotional TV spots and radio ad jingles. She even earned the distinction of winning an annual patriotic song competition and the TV station honored her by playing the song at the station’s on-air opening every day for one year! As a popular TV personality and recording artist, Maureen was in high demand. Even the King of Malaysia hand-selected her on two separate occasions for live, private performances!

Even with a such a demanding daytime TV schedule, Maureen’s music career was taking flight as well when she cut her Malay album titled Perasaan, which included songs that made the Malaysian pop charts including her top-five hit “Aku Sayang Kau Pun Sayang”. She also recorded the theme song for the Prime Minister’s humanitarian program to raise awareness about poverty-stricken children and performed it live at public events well attended by government dignitaries and private citizens alike — All while maintaining a two-shows-a-night, six-nights-a-week performance schedule on the Malaysian nightclub scene for an incredible six-year stretch!

Since moving to the US, Maureen remains busy performing at local venues with several Jazz and light rock bands. In 2006, she also acted as the female lead in a rock opera written and produced by Grammy-nominated artist David Young. Most recently, she signed an agreement with Oryon Media in June 2009 to produce three new songs and flew to LA where she recorded with Kazual and Myklos Malek for her upcoming album. Maureen plans to record new material soon with two new songs and a full-length album currently under development. She is thrilled to be doing what she loves and is looking forward to this exciting new phase of her music career.
